The Wish Reveal That Sparked Pure Joy: Aliyah’s Story

Sugarwish Logo

Together, we create life-changing wishes

Wishes are more than just a nice thing. And they are far more than gifts or singular events in time. A wish provides hope, joy, and strength to kids with critical illnesses at a time when they need it most. A wish is often described as a turning point in the medical journey as a wish gives kids something to look forward to as they undergo their medical treatments.

The wish experience impacts everyone from the wish child, to volunteers, donors, sponsors, medical professionals and communities.  A wish replaces fear with joy, anxiety with hope, and ultimately provides healing for both the wish child and the wish family. A wish brings families closer and strengthens relationships with loved ones. Wishes are transformational. They truly change lives!  Watching communities come together to provide hope and joy to children with critical illnesses is the sweetest gift!

Working with incredible partners like Sugarwish, we get to create these moments that change lives together!

🎉 To understand the incredible impact of a wish, we want to share the story of Aliyah

The special day finally arrived!  Knowing her wish to have a shopping spree would be granted soon, we surprised 9-year old wish kid Aliyah with a wish reveal celebration at Dave & Buster’s, one of our community partners in Colorado. Aliyah had never visited Dave and Buster’s, so this visit was extra special! As we walked through the main entrance, Aliyah was greeted by cheering employees and a special room reserved just for her and her family. As she entered this reserved space, she was drawn to a table with a big Sugarwish custom box filled with all her favorite gummy candy. She was instantly drawn to the Lego candy included in the box. Aliyah loves Legos! She quickly opened the Lego candy and immediately started “building” before she ultimately decided to enjoy eating the candy. It was at this moment that Aliyah was presented with her silver certificate, finding out that her wish was coming true! As the cheers and applause surrounded her, you could see nothing other than her big smile. As the celebration continued, Aliyah could hardly wait to visit the arcade. She and her cousin walked toward the arcade, and the walking quickly turned into running!  Her signature big smile remained, and her eyes welled with excitement. What a day- her first visit to Dave and Buster’s, a custom box from Sugarwish, and a wish coming true. It doesn’t get better than that.

I’m so grateful this day was made extra special by Sugarwish providing a custom Sugarwish Candy gift brimming with all Aliyah’s favorite gummy candies and that Lego candy she loved so much. It felt just like a childhood dream come to life: playful sweets paired with fun bricks, all topped by a beautiful box card that read:

“Your Wish Is Being Granted.”

That card—and every sweet treat inside—made the moment spectacular for Aliyah and her family.

✨ Wish Day arrived!

From the wish reveal to laughter‑filled arcade games at Dave and Buster’s, the day for Aliyah’s shopping spree arrived. We met Aliyah at the mall, and the first thing I noticed was the hat she was wearing that day. The hat was pink (her favorite color), and the word HAPPY was printed across the top.

This young girl has been through so much on her medical journey, yet she chooses to be happy and model happiness to everyone around her. I also reflected on how extra sweet it was to have Sugarwish as part of her wish journey. Happy is a shared word for both Aliyah and Sugarwish. Sugarwish celebrates and provides all things happy to others, and Aliyah celebrates being happy each and every day- what a perfect pairing!  Aliyah’s wish experience felt more than fun- it was empowering. Aliyah got to be the center of attention with loved ones surrounding her and celebrating all she has endured and overcome, freed for a moment from her medical journey. Aliyah has had some very hard times, yet she chooses to have HAPPINESS live in her heart- something we all can learn from.

Everything about this day was designed around her happiness, her dreams, and her favorite things. She visited the Lego store, got her ears pierced, and shared her experience with every member of her family. That kind of joy is certainly transformational!
